Program Description: This master’s degree aims to train students with a Bachelor’s degree in physics or technology in the field of material sciences or science and technology. The training focuses on the applications of radiation from radioactivity or arising from radiation – matter interaction in nuclear medicine, radiobiology, radioprotection and the environment. Concerning supervision, the skills exist locally. In the health sector, the medical and biological applications of radiation are numerous and concern almost all medical specialties. Since the beginning of the last century isotopes have been used in medicine to identify certain diseases. Currently, applications using radiation (radiology, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, scanners, lasers, etc.) have multiplied. They exceed the number of a few hundred uses covering diagnosis, treatment, therapy and palliative care.
In Algeria, despite public and sometimes private investments made in hospitals and clinics, much remains to be done in terms of skills training, particularly in physics.
Thus, we believe that it is the university’s responsibility to overcome this lack by taking advantage of the knowledge, know-how and experience of a multidisciplinary team of teachers: department of physics, medicine, biology, IT, mechanics, electronics, etc.
The objective being to ensure maximum safety for operators, the environment and to the public.
